WHAT IS UP SCHOLARSHIPS?
So you want to know about UP Scholarships? Let me tell you what I know. This whole thing is handled by Social Welfare Department of Uttar Pradesh. Actually it started long time back... I think many years ago. Main idea is simple - help those students who don't have money to study. You know, many kids leave school because parents cannot pay fees. This scheme is for stopping that.
It gives money to SC, ST, OBC, Minority and even General category students. Money comes from state government funds, not from any loan. Students from class 9 upto PhD level can apply for this. And best part? You don't have to return this money. Once they approve your name, amount directly comes to bank account. Simple as that.
TYPES OF UP SCHOLARSHIPS
Look, there are mainly three types of scholarships here. You need to figure out which bucket you fall into. Don't worry, I will break it down simple for you.
Pre Matric Scholarship UP
Okay so this one is basically for kids in class 9 and 10. Doesn't matter if your school is government or private - both work. But yeah, your parents income should be below some limit... I don't remember exact figure, you check the notification. And listen, amount is different for everyone. SC and ST students usually get more. General category gets less. That's how it works.
Post Matric Scholarship UP
Now this is for after 10th. Class 11, 12, graduation, post graduation... all included. Doesn't matter what you study - science, arts, commerce, or technical stuff like ITI, polytechnic. Even B.A, B.Sc, B.Com, M.A, M.Sc students apply for this. I know many friends who got money for their B.Tech also. How much you get? Depends on your course and which category you belong to. Some get 10 thousand, some get more.
Post Matric Other Than Inter
This one is tricky. See, if you passed 12th (inter) and now doing some other course... this is for that. Many students mix this up with normal post matric. Don't do that mistake. Read guidelines properly yaar. If you select wrong category by mistake, they will reject your form straight away. Then whole year goes waste. You have to wait for next session. Not worth it.
So basically - Pre Matric is class 9 and 10. Post Matric Inter covers class 11 and 12. Post Matric Other Than Inter is for graduation and above. All three are open for SC, ST, OBC, General EWS and Minority students. Pick yours carefully.
UP SCHOLARSHIPS ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Not everyone can apply. You must check these points first before starting UP scholarship registration.
- You must be permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh
- Your caste certificate should be of UP only
- Family income should be below prescribed limit
- You must be studying in recognized school or college
- Previous year pass percentage matters for UP scholarship renewal
- You cannot apply if already getting other scholarship

HOW TO APPLY ONLINE FOR UP SCHOLARSHIPS
Okay so you want to apply? Let me tell you the process. I will explain step by step.
First thing - open the website scholarships.up.gov.in. Just type in Google, you will find it. On homepage, look for "New Registration" button. It's usually big and visible. Click that.
Now they will ask your category. Are you SC, ST, OBC or General? Select correctly because this decides your scholarship type also. Pre matric or post matric - choose what applies to you.
Next page they want your basic info. Name, father's name, date of birth... fill exactly as per your certificates. Don't use nicknames or short names. If certificate has "Mohammad" don't write "MD". Big mistake many students do.
Then comes mobile number and email. Use your own number if possible. Not your brother's or friend's. Because OTP will come there. And you will need that OTP many times. For email also, use something you check regularly. Don't put that old email you made in 8th class and forgot password.
Now create password. Make it something you remember but others can't guess. And security question - don't select "mother's maiden name" if you don't know it. Pick something simple like "first school name."
After submitting, they give registration number. Write it down immediately. On paper, in phone, everywhere. If you lose this number, big problem. You can't login without it.
Now login using that number and your new password. Fill the full application form. Take your time. Don't rush. Upload documents - make sure they are clear and size is proper. Blurry photos get rejected.
Finally submit and take printout. Keep that printout safe. You might need it later.
One more thing - don't wait for last date. I am telling you from experience. Website becomes dead slow. Sometimes it crashes. Everyone tries to apply on last day. Start when portal opens. Finish early. Check everything two times before clicking final submit. Because once submitted, you cannot edit. Then you are stuck with mistakes whole year.
UP SCHOLARSHIPS LOGIN PROCESS
Already registered? Here is how to do UP scholarship login.
Open scholarships.up.gov.in. Click on "Student" tab. Select "Login" option. Enter your registration number. This is the number you got during registration. Enter your password. Fill the captcha code shown. Click login button. Now you can see your dashboard. From here you can edit form, check status, or renew application.
Forgot password? Do not worry. Click on "Forgot Password" link. Enter registration number and date of birth. OTP will come on your registered mobile. Enter OTP and set new password. Keep password simple but safe. Write it somewhere.
HOW TO CHECK UP SCHOLARSHIPS STATUS
Waiting for approval? You can check UP scholarship status check online anytime.
Login to your account first. Go to "Application Status" section. It will show current stage. There are many stages like application submitted, forwarded to institution, verified by institution, forwarded to district, approved by district, and finally sanctioned. Your form moves through these stages one by one.
If it shows rejected, read the reason. Sometimes small mistake causes rejection. Contact your school or college if stuck at any stage. They have to verify your form. Without institution verification, process does not move forward.
For payment status - go to pfms.nic.in and enter your bank account number. It will show if money has been sent or not.
IMPORTANT DATES
Application portal usually opens in July 2025. Last date for both pre matric and post matric is around October 2025. After that, institute verification happens in November. District verification goes on till December 2025 . And payment... that comes somewhere around January or February 2026. These are expected dates only yaar - check for official scholarships.up.gov.in confirmed dates. Don't trust WhatsApp forwards for this.
UP SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT 2025-2026
Honestly amount depends on your category and whether you are day scholar or hosteller. SC and ST students get more compared to OBC and General. Hostellers get more than day scholars. For pre matric SC/ST day scholars it is roughly Rs 3500 to 7000 per year. Hostellers get Rs 7000 to 10000. For post matric it goes higher - SC/ST day scholars get Rs 5000 to 12000, hostellers get Rs 12000 to 20000. OBC and General EWS get a bit less. Minority students get similar to SC/ST range. Best way is to check your specific category in the official notification. Amounts sometimes change year to year.

Open scholarships.up.gov.in and go to Student section. Click Fresh Login or Renewal Login. Enter your registration number and password. Fill captcha and click login. That is it.
Login to your account. Go to Application Status section. Enter your registration number and date of birth. Click search. You will see where your application is right now.
You need Aadhaar card, income certificate, caste certificate, domicile certificate, bank passbook, photo, last year marksheet, this year fee receipt, school or college verification form and mobile number linked with Aadhaar.
The official website is scholarships.up.gov.in. Only use this site. Don't use any other website. Many fake sites are there that can cheat you.
Go to Renewal Login on the portal. Use your old registration number and password. Update your details for this year. No need to register again.
This is a scheme where UP government gives money to students for their studies. Money comes straight to your bank. You don't have to pay it back. Just apply and get it.
Any student who lives in UP and studies in a UP school or college can apply. SC, ST, OBC, Minority and General category students with low family income are all allowed. Class 9 to PhD all can apply.
